Reception held by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum
The Protocol Department of His Highness The Ruler’s Court, Government of Dubai invited our President– Ms. Ottavia Molinari and Mr. Pasquale Della Penna – first Vice President & General Secretary to attend a reception followed by luncheon organized at the Beach Palace last Thursday, honored by the presence of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai and other UAE dignitaries. All heads of business councils and groups, operating under the umbrella of the Dubai Chamber, received the honor to attend the reception. The event was a great success strengthening confidence for all international business community operating in the Emirate of Dubai.
JLT/DMCC Business Luncheon
The event was co-organised by DMCC and the Italian Business Council to host the Business Councils of Spain, Greece, Switzerland, Finland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Lebanon, Syria, India, and Japan. In addition, it was also attended by the Dubai Chamber and over 120 of Dubai&rsquos most senior private and public sector representatives, as well as leading members of the banking community and commodities trade.
The Councils were led by Dr. Ottavia Molinari, President of the Italian Business Council, Miguel Silva Constenla, President of the Spanish Business Council, Petros Kallidis and Alex Economides, Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively of the Hellenic Business Council, Peter Harradine, President of the Swiss Business Council Dubai, Pekka Rautimo, President of the Finnish Business Council, Maarten van der Harst, Vice Chairman of the Netherlands Business Council, Joseph Nahra, President of the Lebanese Business Council, Paras Shahdadpuri, Group President of the Indian Business and Professional Council, and Kiyoshi Masuko, Chairman of the Japanese Business Council.
During the event, DMCC presented an overview of its achievements to date, highlighting the strong growth JLT has witnessed in 2010 with over 725 new company registrations, making it one of the fastest growing mixed use free zones in the UAE. DMCC also detailed the many benefits member companies enjoy including 100% business ownership and capital repatriation, a 50 year holiday on personal and corporate tax, freehold offices available for sale or lease as well as serviced and virtual office options, with sole shareholders permissible and a full range of business activities licensed. JLT is strategically located on Sheikh Zayed Road, the main arterial between Dubai and Abu Dhabi and in close proximity to the Dubai Logistics Corridor, along with two operational metro stations situated within the development.
JLT is home to over 2800 companies from around the world and has registered over 200 new member companies since the start of 2011.
DMCC actively supports Business Councils located in UAE and is an active member of many of them including both the Italian Business Council and British Business Group.
Malcolm Wall Morris, Chief Executive Officer of DMCC, said:

Italian Business Council Dubai signs MOU with ASSONAUTICA
The MOU of IBCD with ASSONAUTICA is an initial step for a strategic development of the Italian maritime sector, the yachting and the nautical tourism in Dubai and the United Arab Emirates. We foresee potential alliances in the maritime sectors of both countries that would lead to beneficial alliances, develop pilot projects especially in the technology sectors, seminars, conferences and workshops.&ampamprdquo said Dr. Molinari.
Mr. Meli added “ASSONAUTICA is an Official Agency of the Union of the Italian Chambers of Commerce it was established in Italy on December 16th 1971 with the aim of promoting and supporting the development of maritime sector, of the yachting and the nautical tourism, to safeguarding the interests of the boat-builders, and to favorite the industrial, trade and cultural exchanges in the maritime and tourism field between Italy and U.A.E.”
Assonautica is an institutional no-profit association and comprises 34 provincial Associations and 4 regional ones, founded by UnionCamere, the Italian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, it`s also member of EuroChambres, the European Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. Over 130 participants crowded the event. The event was honored by the presence of H.E. Luciano Galli – Consul General of Italy, H.E. Kris Panday – Consul General of Canada, Dr. Ottavia Molinari – President of the Italian Business Council, Ms. Marie-Josee Primeau – Chairman of the Canadian Business Council, Mr. Omer Al Amin – President of the Insurance Business Group and Mr. Peter Harradine – President of Swiss Business Council.
Special speaker was Mr. Robert A. Willett – new CEO of Al Futtaim Group – who shared with the attendants the vision, strategies and business opportunities for the year 2011. Topic of the speech was “Dubai and the region the way forward”.
Mr. Willett said, “The GDP in the UAE and generally the Gulf is in our favor with an average of growth higher with respect of the European and USA markets. This is the right moment as still tremendous opportunities could be generated in the regional markets.”
Mr. Willett added, “A key element of differentiation should be also the way to change the sales of products not just as a simple commodity but into a positive experience focusing on customers` services and interaction.”
